Back to NormalBy: dan on 09 Aug 2008 posted under Site News |

We're back to our normal operations. I hope you guys enjoyed the short period of free leeching you all had a piece of. I will be doing this every so often as long as we're up to try and attract people to upgrade to premium since premium users are the ones keeping DaRoms going through their continued donations.
Yesterday was also 08/08/08, the start of the Olympic games, and a date considered lucky by many. Whichever country you are from, I wish you all the best in the games. And remember guys, it's not how many medals you win, it's the fact that we're all able to compete alongside the best from all over the world.
Have a good one guys,

Let's Celebrate! Free Leech Till' the 8th!By: dan on 04 Aug 2008 posted under Site News |

Thanks to a few donors, and the few who went premium, DaRoms will stick around for another month. I don't want to say I'm closing DaRoms every time a server bill is close to the due date, but I also don't want to ask for donations. Long story short, if you guys want to see DaRoms stick around- keep up the kind acts.
I like the community oriented effort around a community oriented web site. This makes me feel like all the hard work put into DaRoms was actually worth it. Even when DaRoms is in sticky situations like this, we can somehow manage to get past the rainy days.
So instead of cracking open a bottle of champagne all downloads will be free till' the 8th of August. This means EVERY file will cost 0 points. This is kind of also a taste of what premium is like, so you guys enjoy it- hopefully some more kind people will join premium and help us all out.
Cheers,
~dan

I'm just letting you guys know that I will be removing ALL restrictions (points not required for downloads), except for forced registration on the final days of DaRoms. Rather than let DaRoms whither away, I want it to go out with a bang. I want to use the rest of the bandwidth, and I want people to actually remember DaRoms.
Don't forget we'll stay around if we get some insanely nice people who truly care about DaRoms to donate- but other than that we don't have much hope. Let's end it in a good mood, on a high note!

Sorry Guys.By: dan on 02 Jul 2008 posted under Site News |

Well, the title of the news post can't be good, and it isn't really. DaRoms has turned itself from a hobby into a complete loss. I am putting a lot of time and work into DaRoms, but lack of income from ads and donations is forcing me to bring the downloads offline for good.
What does this mean? To sum it up:
* I don't have money for DaRoms
* The downloads will go away forever (or till' I win the lottery or something)
And please don't see me as a bad person or anything. I've always accepted donations and put them towards the server. I even opened up a premium user group to attempt to get a constant donation, but have had no interest in it whatsoever. It seems users here just want to leech and not give anything back; I'm cool with that- but I can't afford it and am taking it all away.
Some small notes:
* The domain daroms.com will remain under my ownership
* The forums will be backed up
* All ROMs will stay on my local machine
If you guys really want to see DaRoms stay around here, you will still be able to join the premium user group. I'll need about 10 people (out of the thousands and thousands) to join premium to stay around for another month. I am not asking for donations, but will accept them with open arms.
DaRoms will go down in the first few days of August.

Some Late-Spring Updates!By: dan on 14 Jun 2008 posted under Site News |

Hello, hello! I finally pulled some of my free time together to write an up to date CPS3 emulation guide. We had a bunch of people coming here form Anti3D with links from the old guide, well now we have one that is actually useful! It covers P2P Kaillera and CPS3 emulation with nFBA. What are you waiting for? Read it now!
The second point of news isn't that great. I've set up the premium service as a last stand on balancing off the server bills. There has not been any interest in the premium service and it seems all of our visitors can't go premium, or don't care about DaRoms surviving into the future. With that said- we might be seeing the downloads go byebye, then the forums, then the entire site in about a month and a half's time.
Just a heads up,

Premium ServiceBy: dan on 01 Jun 2008 posted under Site News |

Hello! We are getting a bunch of news, the front page of DaRoms is getting busy. This morning I will present to you all: the DaRoms Premium usergroup. By subscribing to a recurring donation of $6.00 a month, you can bypass the pesky download points, get access to a Premium-only forum, gain entry to future Premium-only events (prize draws, etc), and get the self satisfaction in helping out DaRoms.
If you guys are interested, just head over to the Donate! page and click the "Pay Now" PayPal button (next to the premium access description). Once I get confirmation of the payment, I'll change your usergroup on the forum to Premium and you'll get all the goodies! If you have any questions or concerns before subscribing, just hop to this topic in the forums and ask- I'll answer ASAP.

PS. The site will remain the same for non-premium users, so you don't have to worry about a thing.
ePSXe 1.7.0 Released!By: dan on 01 Jun 2008 posted under Emulation News |

Wow, talk about a long time between releases! It's been about four years since we've seen the ePSXe team release an update to their awesome Playstation emulator. This update includes a bunch of things such as an updated sound core, rewritten ISO handler, increased pad support, and a bunch of other goodies. You guys can jump to the downloads section and grab this ASAP!
Also, Pete updated his OpenGL video plugin for ePSXe. I packaged it with the emulator so you guys won't have to dig around the internet for it. Guys, make sure you pick this up if you're into PSX emulation because I have just played with it for a few minutes, and see a bunch of differences!

PS. GBA ROMs are fixed!
It's Been Two MonthsBy: dan on 21 May 2008 posted under Site News |

Hey guys, just popping in quickly here to let everyone know the site went through some updates. They might not be as visible as you think, so here I go.
A major issue, MAME names, has been fixed. I made a series of scripts so I can do this often without many problems. The next thing I did was create a "Batch Add" page (no you can't use it- sorry). This page lets me add ROMs into the database from a folder all automatically.
I've also pushed the NDS ROMs to 2300. I've decided I will update the ROMs on every 100 ROMs that come out. This way I won't be frantically searching for a source of bleeding-edge ROMs.
What can you expect in the future? I would like to update the MAME ROMs to the latest version (the one of the site is 0.123). Also, fixing the GBA ROMs is a major priority (if you haven't noticed the problems, that is good), expect those to be proper shortly.
Other than that- enjoy DaRoms in it's active state, which I will try to keep it in!
Also, just letting you guys know that I just put up the Neo Geo Pocket ROMs once again!

DaRoms in Full ForceBy: dan on 21 Mar 2008 posted under Site News |

If you check the downloads section of the site you will see some happy things ;). The downloads are back online; hosted on our new file server with plenty of space! Despite what the title says, we're not back in full force yet. We still need to fix the naming of the MAME and NDS ROMs, as well as clean up the GBA ROMs to allow for easier listing (and searching).
The most important feature to look out for is the points system which will be used for downloading NDS and GBA games. New registrants to this site will receive 20 download points, so sign up now! Full details about the points system can be found here.
With things coming back up, and new users joining the community- I want to give thanks to everyone who stuck with us when we were down on our knees (not really, but you get what I mean ;) ). I assure you the pace will rapidly increase around here- so look forward to the close future!
Discussion can be found here.
